Musings from BIO-Europe in Hamburg

December 01, 2012

BIO-Europe was a well run, large scale event by the EBD group, attended by Talentmark.

The event provided the setting for a ‘collision’ of multiple interests with the common purpose of finding solutions for success in the evolving global biotech industry and profoundly changing structure of big pharma. Talentmark linked with consulting partners LSCN to hold a number of combined meetings. This demonstrated, as if needed, how the synergy between individual consultants’ different specialisations can bring additional value to clients by overarching projects to provide more than just a recruitment need.

Talentmark noticed a sense of optimism, tempered by realism and pragmatism, from numerous contacts across many of the sectors and geographies in addressing the various challenges facing our industry.

I enjoyed a hectic three and half days with a most enjoyable renewing of old friends and acquaintances and the opportunity to meet new people. Talentmark felt there was a positive mood amongst delegates, returning to their offices to complete some of the potential deals. The event provided the opportunity to discuss business in a variety of settings from breakfast meetings to deep-into-the-night conversations at various social events. As always the devil is in the detail with the need to follow up quickly on newly established business leads and potential projects!

The Beatles-Platz sign I saw from the train was a reminder of the impact that the Fab Four from Merseyside had early in their career… a challenge to new UK life science players to make at least a fraction of that impact on the transient circus train of the Biotech industry as it decamps from Hamburg.
